STREET CITIZEN

Have you ever walked the Market?

Then there's a place, you may well know.

Where you share a regal presence,

Of someone from long ago.

Standing there, tall and majestic,

Full, well groomed, above the shade.

A focus from a distance,

Solitude in sculptured jade.

A reflection of Mother Nature.

Strength and purpose one,

Reaching upward, commanding,

The centre of the Sun.

Time has been an ally.

Growth and stature great.

Balance and good symmetry,

Designed simply, ornate.

How long shall this custodian,

Dispense the daily gift?

Shall it be for many seasons,

To those who choose to live.

Cherish and protect,

This sentinel unique,

A universal citizen,

Who gives and does not speak.
