The Interview!

An open room, small, yet, well lit.

A panel, of three, present themselves

The Master of Ceremonies in the Chair, presides;

To his left, a distinguished volunteer;

To the right, the businesslike representative.

The invitation, not to sit, but to make one's own presentation.

No preamble, no small chit-chat, breaks the process.

Already it feels like an exam;

A test of one's own knowledge and worthiness.

What are the standards that are common to all?

There should be a reference point! It is not visible.

Answers are auto-responsive to direct questions.

They flow from one part of the brain, impersonal;

Mechanical thought condensed to meet stereotypical controls.

Two pieces of information have been exchanged;

The parameters and demands for the job;

A position requiring many skills and attributes;

Specific boxes with defined boundaries are set;

They are demanding yet, not overwhelming.

Assessing oneself against them is a challenge.

Here would be a medium for discussion.

Honesty is often hard to find.

The candidate who can breach limitations may advance.

Skilful analysis of one's own qualities is demanded.

Matching the proffered criteria sought is a test.

Appealing to the analyst requires that first bridge;

A logical overview of ability condensed, the foundations of personality,

Not merely the label of employment, must appeal.

One might expect the fireside chat;

An intimate conversation on common ground.

Mutual exchanges are made, limits are tested.

Dialogue is the matching of commonalties.

Interest may bridge differences and find consensus.

Strengths may be readily identified;

Weaknesses are recognized and compromise agreed.

There are few jobs that limit the skills required.

Some may be functional and technical.

These may be diffuse of personality;

Others are, by virtue of their cause, humanitarian.

Care and concern are factors to be observed.

Compassion and empathy are obvious only from self experience.

Which criteria is the main driving component?

The corporate world is formal and structured.

Qualifications that are required are often rigidly applied.

Education levels are no reflection of life skills.

Profit is often the only motive;

Quality of product; pride of achievement; fall by the wayside.

There is an insulation of emotion and feelings.

An overreaching shadow of targets and achievement dwarf much!

Where will one find the balance in the humanity of cause?

Regimental questions will obtain regimented replies.

More may be expected when response is uncoached.

An exchange of ideals will allow for development.

Fairness if applied will underwrite the correct choice.

In horse racing, the jockey knows where the winning post lies;

He knows his competition and his handicap, he does not compete against himself.
