Storytellers!

Where are all the storytellers now?

Customs and histories were once told

by minstrels and soothsayers.

Events were experienced first hand

and relived with animation.

Sagas and epics have been portrayed

since the beginning of time

in the earliest of memories,

refreshed and enlivened dramatically.

Fables have been embellished

with colour, words and actions,

intent on stimulating the listener

with one thought in mind;

Life is a bigger experience and goes beyond

the simple beginnings

to which most of us are bound.

Curiosity drives us to take heed,

and being the centre of attention leads us to recount

and validate the experience of others.

Myths and legends are the blocks

upon which reputations are built.

There will be a few who are worthy of such acclamation!

To them the honour has been given,

to be venerated and as icons worshipped.

There are many, whose fame short lived,

have been given greater recognition

than that of which they are deservéd.

There are a few who silent stand apart,

not aloof, merely untouchable.

Theirs is a greater story, yet to be captured and related

to the poor in diction, short of memory,

purely ungrateful and utterly ungracious.

Anchors now recant pocket snippets of information

designed to conform no sense of saga or responsibility.

Visual images are traded for the sense and feeling

acquainted with reality.

News events concern people;

there are events that most frequently favour celebration

rather than travesty and injustice.

It is unfortunate that those

who have appointed themselves

are lost in their own misery,

the part of others!
