OUR LAND; THIS CANADA.
What is this Canada?
A body without a soul,
An amoeba spread out
Across this bowl;
Each segment wriggling
Toward a different destiny;
A multitude of pieces,
Grains of sand trickling
Through another hourglass;
Squeezed briefly together
To fall loosely.
Is there a reason to be,
A goal, a need, a care?
Is there a dream to see,
A challenge, a dare?
How can there be unity
Without something to share?
We believe, we hope, we trust;
O land of brave and free
For those who came with just
The thoughts of guarding thee;
For now to grow we must!
Our time is now.
Each one must forge a link;
To build the bond of strength
And keep us from the brink.
Consider the option and extend
To the needs of others
What one would give a friend.
Opportunity and equality brothers,
Sisters, children, think!
Together play the music
To harmonize and blend.
For this country's greatness,
Imagine and prepare;
A compromise, a gesture
To give that which is fair.
Each party and proponent
Of growth and of despair
Must put aside self interest;
Set goals to lead us there.
If parliament is bias;
Then let it duly share
The duty in its care.
"Why are we here?" Let each one ask.
To start anew, to blend the task.
From many nations we have brought
The customs and the skills we ought
To give toward the greater good,
To enrich our lives as best we could.
There is room enough for all;
So let us forward pace to call
This land a nurturing place, a home,
Where dreams are made; And for once,
A sense of longing may make us one.
Peoples are known by differing views.
Countries are seen by high or low
Of global statistics and how
Production and domestic product meet
Those neighbour or competitor elite.
Value is not "How much? How many?"
But of quality, not dollar or penny;
Spent to promote a style of life
Which cannot be enjoyed with equality.
There is a chance that given time
A common goal will bring to each
Prosperity!
Stand up then for our song.
Let voices loud be raised;
An anthem that says "Belong."
Be one of us, proud and praised.
This land is ours to command;
That individually we stand;
A country, each hand in hand,
Of people who now say
"Have hope and faith, and may
We meet the terms of duality!"
Let our thoughts expand to attain mutual nationality.
